This group offers the opportunity to learn a number of new skills either from an outside teacher or a U3a member. The cost will depend on the craft being taught.
Current and Future Workshops
6th October 2026 – Metal Embossing – Picture Frame – 10am-12 Noon.
Metal embossing is used to impart a design upon metal sheets. The metal is pushed with an
embossing tool or stylus in order to create a raised effect on the opposite side.
By placing the metal sheet on a rubber or foam pad, the positive impression has a smooth surface that will shine or can take pigment.
3rd November 2026 – Mandala – 10am - 12 Noon.
Come and indulge yourself in the wonderful world of dots and the art of Mandala.
Lots of different paint colours to choose from as well as different sizes of dotting tools to create beautiful designs.
You will practice with the dotty tools first so you can see how you can get the
different effects from the tools.
26th November 2026 – Glass Fused Art Lantern – 2pm-4pm – Fully Booked
The workshop will consist of a short explanation, examples of projects, all materials, instructions, and the opportunity to create 2 panels of the lantern with glass.
The other 2 sides you will paint in a design of your choice.
Designs will then be taken away by the workshop leaders to fire in their kiln
and returned for collection

Previous Workshops:
14th April 2026 – Resin Flowers – Daffodils & Tulips – 10am-12 Noon
Resin is a durable and strong medium, leaving a high gloss, protective finish that allows for a variety of desired affects you can create for your art piece. Firstly, you will make the shapes out of wire and once happy these will be dipped in resin. They will all be linked together with wire so you can make the flowers.
12th May – Folk It Dotty Art – 10am -12 Noon
This is a fun and easy activity; no artistic ability is required.
In just a few simple steps you can create a Hanging Heart and a Mount Board for a card.
Full instructions will be given so you can make pretty roses, hearts and delicate laces
to name just a few, all out of dots and acrylic paint..
4th June – Felting – 1.30pm-5.30pm
This will involve making a flat piece of wet felt using Merino wool and silk embellishments.
Fibres are finely layered out, then rubbed and rolled with soapy water to felt the fibres together.
Once dry this fabric can be cut and sewn into a flower or more abstract brooch.
