Beacon and the Members Portal

What is Beacon?

Beacon is the online membership database used by Droitwich u3a along with many other u3as. Amongst other things, it enables members of the Committee, Group Leaders and some other post holders of Droitwich u3a (eg the Newsletter Editor) to be able to send emails to members. Such Registered Users of Beacon can only be set-up by the Beacon Administrator, and their level of access to the database is limited to the role they have in our u3a. For example, a Group Leader can only send emails to the members of their interest group(s).

In addition, every member of Droitwich u3a is able to view their own membership record in Beacon in order to check that all the details are correct, and/or to make changes, for example if they move house. Note that you will only be able to see your own details. However, you don't have to do this yourself as you can always contact the Membership Secretary or the Beacon Administrator to make any changes for you. This way of accessing Beacon is known as the Beacon Members Portal.

For any member of Droitwich u3a wishing to view and/or change their membership contact details. You create an account for this yourself.

Please note that members of the Committee, Group Leaders and some other post holders of Droitwich u3a who are Registered Beacon Users, can only view and/or change their own membership record via the Members Portal, and the two methods of accessing Beacon as described above are entirely separate. Note also that the Members Portal can be used for other operations, for example, you can order an email enclosing your Membership Card, and from April 2025 you will be able to renew your membership by paying your Membership Fee using a Credit or Debit Card, or from a PayPal account.

Please be aware that many password mangers that members use on their home computer are not able to distinguish between the Registered Users login screen and the Members Portal login screen, and may autofill the login screen with the wrong login details.
